This is the reason that there was such small progress on the Butterfly last week. I had to (really, I did, the needles made me do it) take her off my 5mm addi circular so that I could knit up Aura from the Rowan Calmer book. It's taken the best part of the week to knit it and then when it was finished, I looked horrible in it. I've given it to the nine-year old who can make anything look cute. Purple is so much more her colour....
I knit it in the round using Rowan Calmer. It comes out quite large - I strongly suspect that the model in the book must have a large safety pin holding back excess fabric to get the fit. It was my first experience of knitting with Calmer, which I enjoyed although I did find it easy to split the yarn when knitting but spotted it quickly enough. It feels good to the touch - a comforting squashiness (sp.? is that a word?).
Especially for Kris, here's a picture of the other side of the Textured Knits cover cardigan:
There's some interesting designs in this book. A bobble and cabled sweater in a jolly red merino Aran, a cosy chenille cardigan (this one may appear on my needles soon - I have a lot of chenille crying out to be used) and a big squishy sweater knit with a strand of Jaeger merino DK and two different coloured strands of Kidsilk Haze held together to knit an elongated stocking stitch - gives me a warm, soft feeling just thinking about it....
thanks, anita! and wow, it's a cardigan - i thought it was a sweater. it's beautiful and i'm definitely getting that book!
i love the purple calmer you used for the hat. actually, i have just knitted a hat i look horrible in, too. i won't be modelling that one on my blog!
Posted by: kris at November 16, 2004 04:16 PMIt's a pity the hat didn't fit! I'm wary of pictures now because there are some things you don't see until you knit them up.
Love how Butterfly is progressing! Those are great colors.
Posted by: MJ at November 18, 2004 08:13 PMwhat a shame about your hat but being utterly selfish it's very useful for me to know as I was planning to knit this for a friend who really liked it in the book ! I shall measure her bonce before commencing ;0)
