I finished up the Umbilical Cord Hat from Stitch n'Bitch and it's now wrapped and winging its way to our nephew - another gift crossed off the Christmas list! I quite enjoy knitting with 'boy' colours. I imagine that I will find them dull but I rather liked the 'earthy' tones of this hat. I used dk bought from Dyed In The Wool years ago - stash-busting!
There doesn't seem time enough in the day to do anything else but gift-knitting at the moment but I've chosen something for my Mum which I rather fancied knitting for myself so I'm treating this as a trial run! It's the Flower Basket Shawl from Interweave Knits which is a beautifully written pattern - deceptively simple though it's taken me until the fourth pattern repeat to find the 'rhythm' of the stitches. The shawl is still on the needles so here's a rather scrunchy picture:
I'm using Debbie Bliss baby cashmerino - the colour is not quite as cherry red as the photograph suggests but it's a good Christmassy colour! It will suit my Mum's colouring especially.
yum, flower basket shawl in baby cashmerino! that is going to be one lovely present!

I like the hat too. It does us good to try out different colour palettes now and then I think. :0)
