It feels as if I've been away for the longest time. Thank you all for your kind wishes, it's been a difficult couple of weeks. The funeral went off as well as could be expected, all the family were there as well as many of my mother-in-law's friends and neighbours. I think I may have broken the world record for the number of cups of tea made over a short period, comfort for many was found at the bottom of the tea-cup.
We didn't take the children, my mother and father were able to step in and take care of them while we were away. My littlest girl became terribly poorly after I left which heaped bucketloads of motherly guilt upon my shoulders - it's so hard to do right by everybody all the time. Fortunately she's much better now and all three girls are back at school today. Peace and quiet reigns (for the time being!).
So knitting time has been restricted to working on a pair of socks, it just didn't feel appropriate to get absorbed in some huge piece of work while I've been away. The car journey afforded some solid knitting time - enough to turn the heel of a sock! I've looked back through my archives and noticed that one of my earliest entries makes mention of the start of these socks (almost a year ago!) and I thought that wasn't a situation I could allow to continue.
Yes, I really do have short fat feet

Posted by: Tracy at April 11, 2005 04:33 PMFunerals are very emotionally draining. It's good to see you back.
The socks are lovely and I see that you made them match too.
Fab socks !
Pleased to see you're o.k.
Nice to see you back. These are awful occasions, however much you've prepared for it. The socks look great (but I would just love to see your feet - these socks look really short and wide!).
