Look at the latest addition to my 'knitting notions'. It's an Ashford Traditional and came with a big old box of bits and pieces. Its previous owner had brought it all the way from New Zealand and then decided that she didn't have time for knitting and spinning any more (!) so now it lives here. I'm starting from scratch here so it may be a while before I'm knitting up my own yarn!
Posted by Anita at April 18, 2005 09:16 AMNo time for knitting and spinning ! I'm lost for words !
She looks beautiful.A little bit of love and polish and she'll glow.Shame you're not closer.I'd get you going !
How ever did you find that?? I am green with envy - you lucky girl! have fun. :)
Posted by: Jackie at April 18, 2005 01:11 PMAh..... another new spinner! You're going to have lots of fun.
Posted by: Cassie at April 18, 2005 03:43 PMYay! I knew you'd get one soon. It's beautiful, you're going to have so much fun. Will you be able to have a little lesson from the previous owner or have you already had one. I was just trying to think about this Cornwall/Dorset thing, we'd have to meet in a layby in Devon!
Posted by: Tracy at April 18, 2005 04:35 PMWhat fun! I have an old scond (third?) hand Ashford Traditional too. I learned a lot from some spinning videos I got at the library. Much more helpful than reading about it in a book.
Posted by: Jessica at April 18, 2005 05:49 PMthat's great! it doesn't take too long to make your own yarn, especially if somebody, as Emma says, gets you going!
Posted by: benedetta at April 19, 2005 12:31 AMsuch a struggle finding ways to fill your time isn't it ? ;0) Have with the spinning, you're a braver woman than I !
Posted by: Heather at April 21, 2005 01:34 PMsorry - meant to say have FUN with the spinning. Fingers faster than brain today
Posted by: Heather at April 21, 2005 01:35 PMI recently acquired an Ashford Traditional - I have fallen completely, absolutely in love with it. There is great satisfaction to be had in walking around the house in socks that you made from scratch. Good luck in your spinning endeavors.
Posted by: Elise at May 3, 2005 07:51 PMI have just discovered this blog and I feel that I have entered a room of friends!!! I was a fibers major at university and have never felt comfortable spending blocks of time without a knitting project in my hands. About twenty years ago, I could NOT find any quality yarns to knit with in my community and realized that I would have to spin my own. I took my rudimentary knowledge of spinning from my classes, bought a wheel, ordered wool roving from Australia, and began making my own yarn. It was so much fun!! I found that a good time to practice spinning was while talking on the phone with a friend. I could concentrate on visiting with her and before I knew it, I had lots of yarn spun. Good luck and enjoy!
