The Corset Chronicles

corset fin.JPG
Isn't she pretty?

Pattern: Silk Ribbed Lace Corset by Annie Modesitt
Yarn: Main Colour - 2 x Jaeger Trinity in no. 439 (Flamenco), Contrast - 1 x Jaeger Trinity no. 452 (Clay)
Needles: 4.5mm

I'm pleased with how this project turned out. The final garment is pretty and wearable. No bra strap peekage or underarm gaping and the fit is flattering. The pattern and design is extremely well-thought out, the 'flow' of the ribbing, for example, is very pleasing and 'right'.

An outdoor shot

If you wonder what I'm looking at in that photograph it was the arrival of this fellow in the photograph session! That's Kep, by the way. There were cats around as well but Kep wouldn't let them be photographed.

The corset is finished with a round of single crochet all around the outside using the contrast colour. It always makes a good tidy edge and brings the design together. The buttons were a lucky find in my local haberdashery.

I'm not sure that a back view of the corset is online anywhere, so for those who want to know what it looks like from behind, here it is.

I thoroughly enjoyed knitting the corset. I can see it in perhaps white or ivory for a wedding (or bridesmaids).

Thank you, Annie for designing such a lovely garment.

This corset is truly lovely and fits to perfection. You are right, it would be ideal in a light colour for a wedding... or in black perhaps with a shiny trim for a special night out. Bravo!!!

Thank you for the modeled photos. Seeing it on a person helps so very much in deciding if you want to knit a pattern or not. Great job and thank you for adding yet another pattern to my must do list.

Oh, wow...I totally love the corset! Your color choice is outstanding and it looks great! I think I will definitely need to order this one!

Posted by: Beth at July 12, 2005 03:46 AM

Hello Anita,
I found your blog today, via a link from Annie Modesitt's blog. Lovely, lovely corset.
I can confirm what so many commenters predicted - your photos made my mind up, and I ordered the pattern.
I live near Strasbourg (France) and have no access to Jaeger Yarns. What's Trinity like? Soft, or very, very soft? I'm very tempted by this yarn (that I can order from the UK), but I have very sensitive skin. The Internet is great, but you can't touch before purchase...

Posted by: Annette at July 12, 2005 01:38 PM

ho, the shape is perfect. I've just ordered the pattern, my mother want to knit it, and she is as thin as you, hope the corset will fit perfectly to her like to you.

Posted by: sof frankenstein at July 12, 2005 05:04 PM

That is gorgeous and fits you perfectly! Makes me wanna knit it! Dang, I gotta go buy it now!

Posted by: Petra at July 13, 2005 03:34 AM

You look wonderful in this!! What a great job.

Posted by: Michelle at July 13, 2005 03:45 AM

That is truly gorgeous! I have some trinity in my stash, how much pattern conversion was necessary to use this yarn? I think my daughter would love this top.

Posted by: Bliss at July 13, 2005 05:12 PM

this corset is so pretty and feminine!

Posted by: marjorie at July 14, 2005 06:47 AM

Hi, I came to peek from Annie Modesitt's blog and all I can say is wow! I have the pattern, this is just the thing to inspire me to get knitting on this baby. You did a fabulous job and I hope you enjoy your lovely new top for a long time.

Posted by: anmiryam at July 14, 2005 09:41 PM

Anita, it is beautiful! I love your color combination too, and it's a perfect fit. Oh my.

Posted by: MJ at July 21, 2005 10:37 PM

Ooooh, it looks fantastic! Really beautiful!

Another pattern for the ever-increasing list of things-to-knit... :)

Posted by: Iris at July 23, 2005 10:45 AM

I can only add my voice to the chorus of ohhhhs and ahhhhs. Wow. She's gorgeous.

Posted by: Amelia at July 25, 2005 08:10 PM

Surely "I'm pleased with how this project came out' is a euphemysm for "bow down before me for I am a godess and this magnificent creation proves it".
This corset is absolutely perfect on you.

Posted by: Ailsa at August 1, 2005 12:58 AM

Wow, your knitting is unbelievably superb. I wish I were thin enough to wear it! Keep on knitting!
