When I'm not doing fiddly 4-ply intarsia, I like nothing better than to break out the Kidsilk Haze and start knitting a Rowan-three-skein rated lace pattern. Just to relax, you understand.
I think it's the border that gives Butterfly (I'm doing the shorter vest version) the three-skein rating. It's knitted sideways and then the stitches for the body part are picked up along the top edge. From then on, the lace pattern isn't too bad. I say not too bad by which you can understand that this means "no talking whilst knitting" and quite possibly "no looking up from the knitting" or else those pesky little stitches just magically re-arrange themselves.
Oh, the things we do for fun......
Posted by Anita at August 16, 2005 06:03 PMIt's so pretty! Even (I assume) before blocking, the lace is so open and regular and...sigh. You certainly do give a girl something to aspire to. I can't wait to see the the rest!
Posted by: E at August 16, 2005 06:50 PMSo, so pretty!
Posted by: Colleen at August 16, 2005 09:23 PMThis is so beautiful and delicate. You are very brave to start this during the school holidays!
Posted by: francoisef at August 16, 2005 10:16 PMit's looking fabulous. Nothing like a challenging lace/kid silk haze pattern to keep the old brain cells working! I love the colour too, so much better than beige, sorry, Villain (those Rowan shade names!)

I love that design, are you using the same shade you did for Birch? Its one of my favourites, I cant wait to see it all finished and modelled..
Posted by: kerrie at August 17, 2005 01:43 PMIt looks great!
Just curious, what size are you making and how many repeats of the border lace did you do?
I'm having "issues" with the number of edge stitches to required pick up stitches...
Posted by: Anne at August 17, 2005 03:15 PMi'm knitting butterfly, too. the border IS hard! i still have about five more to go. it is taking me forever to do it. yours is really lovely!!
Posted by: blossom at August 17, 2005 10:26 PMBeautiful - what color is it? I just bought some KSH today in (I think) the same color. Your butterfly will be gorgeous.
Posted by: Jackie at August 17, 2005 11:24 PMYour Butterfly looks great!! I just finished the back - the lace really does get to where you don't have to think about it so much. I love the color you're using - what is it called?
Posted by: Kathy at August 18, 2005 04:28 AMIt is beautiful ! I have no lace knitting for a while already. You are tempting me to start again !
Posted by: Eva Shiu at August 18, 2005 05:07 AMNow that has made me think about my colour choices, yours looks gorgeous. It's coming on beautifully, so feminine.
