Aren't the beads pretty? They're called 'Candy Mix' and they come from G J Beads. I don't mind the bead-stringing part of knitting with beads - prolongs the excitement of casting on a new project!
The yarn is Rowan Soft Baby in Princess. I was fortunate that blueadt_knits very kindly sent me some yarn to try out (also a fab birthday present for BB) and the Odessa hat from Magknits seemed the perfect choice (I think Vanessa suggested this pattern in my comments a few posts ago).
I have to say that the yarn is a little like knitting with candyfloss, quite lightly spun and airy. It's very soft and kind to the skin though which is great. I think the colours of the beads lift the colour out of the realms of baby garments.
Apologies for the slight blurry-ness of the picture - I obviously need more practise taking pictures of moving objects! The hat has been very well received and I may well have to knit at least two other versions of the same pattern which is no hardship.
The BB is still at home as the chicken pox saga continues. We know that we have at least another two weeks at home together as the most recent case became 'spotty' this weekend - what a strange school-term it has been so far.
The hedgerows were being cut today so my husband presented me with a carrier bag full of quickly picked elderflowers. At present, they are submerged in water together with the zest of an orange and some lemons, waiting to be turned into elderflower cordial tomorrow. Sounds fragrant, doesn't it? Actually the sad truth is that it is rather stinky - I hope that will improve tomorrow!

Posted by: Jessica at June 12, 2006 07:06 PMWhat a great hat!! The beads really remind me of colored sprinkles on a strawberry ice cream cone! Perfect!
(And your pictures look wonderful, silly! They're not blurry on my screen at all.)

Posted by: Anna at June 12, 2006 07:59 PMI love those beads, so, so pretty... The Odessa hat is stunning in this combination of candy pink and beads! I am not surprised that the BB wants more...
Posted by: francoise at June 12, 2006 10:48 PMThat hat is so cute!
Posted by: monica at June 13, 2006 12:04 AMLove the colours of the beads against the yarn. Makes it look very funky - just right for a big girl!
Posted by: Mary at June 13, 2006 01:06 AMYour Odessa is so pretty! I love the combo with the colourful beads.
Posted by: Siow Chin at June 13, 2006 02:58 AMwhat a pretty hat.. I love the beads too and will um have to go order some now...because my god-daughter is going to love it
Posted by: atu at June 13, 2006 07:56 AMI like your idea of using multi-colored beads for Odessa. I bought mine (haven't knit it yet) but was only thinking one color, which is why I'll never get beyond blindly following a pattern!
Posted by: Janet at June 13, 2006 02:01 PMIt's a lovely hat, girlie rather than baby. You're brave, making elderflower cordial. Hope it works out well. I'm useless at these sort of things!
Lovely hat - those bright beads make it really beautiful!
Posted by: Mrs Independent at June 14, 2006 10:10 PMI keep looking at this Odessa - I can see a bead-mix strawberry combo for me this winter - I'm such a copycat!

Your Odessa is lovely, I love the way the beading makes it look. I am curious to know how your Elderflower cordial turned out? I keep looking at the elderflowers outside and wondering about making some.
Posted by: Rebecca at June 19, 2006 08:49 PMI love your odessa, I finished mine at the weekend. If you have time pop over and take a look...
